Summary of the "Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech"

by Rabindranath Tagore

The Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech done by Rabindranath Tagore is entirely humble and full of gratitude for the honour that he received in the form of this reward. Tagore portrayed the scenes around him when he got news of his selection for the prize. It was a time of afternoon when he just passed by the telegram office when a man carrying a telegraphic message arrived and got updates about his opportunity.

At first, he thought it was a message done mistakenly but later he felt certain about it. He celebrated this joyful movement in a forest near the school with teachers and boys. At night Tagore was contemplating what might be the reason for his poems being granted and honoured by the West.

Furthermore, he mentioned that his early life was inspired by beauty having attractive and charming components. Wild birds, the autumn season, rivers and most especially revealing secrets of nature within solitude made Tagore’s poetry pleasureful and late towards a prize. He is also emphasizing the difference between Eastern and Western poets as he observes nature more closely.

Tagore also says he wants to render a platform where children can enjoy nature and its impacts on human beings. Because he was keen to teach children that they are parts of natural beauty. Tagore usually writes poems in the early morning and the afternoon glow of sunset, while he sings them at midnight under the glorious stars of the Indian sky. According to the writer, his poetry is like a power that helps to cross all boundaries of the West and East and sends messages to the future as well.

Moreover, he highlighted the creation of Gitanjali poems in ‘Bangali’ and its translation into the English language which was highly praised by the West. So, Tagore decided to serve the Eastern children, especially students (since it would behave like a seed which would give us fruit). He used this money in the shape of a reward for the establishment of a university so that Eastern brethren could come to meet with Western ones through this institute. As it opened its gates to all races with hospitality. He said, it was a good time in which he made something valuable to bring close both East and West, and he thanked God for this opportunity.

Lastly, Tagore accepted that India is the ideal of unity and it never rejects any race or any culture rather it unites all human racesIndia has Dravidian, Mohammedans, Hindus and all different sects and communities of men. Thus, only spiritual unity can bring us close, apart from it, peace, love and friendship can help to make a bond among us. All the defects will be removed if we go deep into the heart of the shrine with love to unite all races. Therefore, he said; the sole purpose of this university will be the reconciliation of the East and the West and also for this motive I have come to you with the name of love and with the name of God I ask you to come.
